President Benigno Aquino III on Monday still refused to divulge his choice for the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), saying he still needs to talk with the person.
At a press briefing, the President said he will make the announcement “very, very soon."
Asked why he can’t divulge the name yet, Aquino said retiring PNP chief Director General Raul Bacalzo and the replacement still need to tidy up their affairs, and that he still needs to talk to the incoming PNP chief.
“Wala namang issue so far that I can see, but I would want to talk to the incoming one last time before I formally announce it," he said.
Bacalzo, who took the post September last year, is set to retire on September 15 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 55. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1977.
Aquino said during the 110th service anniversary of the PNP last month that he already has a shortlist of possible replacements and would announce his choice at the appropriate time.
