Philippine President Benigno Aquino III on Monday confirmed that he would go on official trips to the United States and Japan later this month.
Aquino told reporters that his U.S. visit was primarily to attend the formal launch of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), of which the Philippines is a member of the steering committee.
He said that he was invited by U.S. President Barack Obama to attend the OGP launch, and that he would also meet with World Bank officials during his second U.S. visit, limited this time to New York and Washington.
President Aquino said that the U.S. event also involves 12 other participating countries from various parts of the world, including two from Asia -- Indonesia and the Philippines.
When asked on the details of his Japan trip, the President said that it would be an official visit.
He said that he expected to bring home "good news..if not for both, at least definitely" from one of the two countries.
