Philippines' fiscal surplus rose to PHP 26.3 billion in April, the biggest amount recorded in least 25 years, data from the Treasury showed Monday.
During the same month last year, the surplus amounted to PHP 2.6 billion. The national government registered a fiscal surplus of PHP 61 million for the period between January to April, compared to a PHP 131.8 billion deficit recorded a year ago.
The primary budget balance, that nets out the interest payments in the expenditures, showed a surplus of PHP 37.69 billion in April this year compared to PHP 18.3 billion in April 2010. The primary surplus for the first four months was PHP 102.2 billion compared to a deficit of PHP 7.03 billion last year.
In April, revenue collections reached PHP 138.3 billion, 11.14 higher than last year. Actual expenditure amounted to PHP 112.08 billion.
